Firm Profile

In 1979 the Wall Street Journal printed an article predicting the death of the independent local accounting firm. It was obvious to the experts of the day that the “Big 8” accounting firms were setting their sights toward small business and individual tax clients. Offering the small business owner access to the unlimited capabilities of a firm would be an offer they couldn’t refuse. Thirty days before this article appeared, we decided to leave our jobs at the big firms, and form an accounting firm to serve the small business and individual tax client. We were either the two dumbest CPA’s in town, or we innately understood something the experts did not.

People work with people, not firms.

While P&G needs Deloitte & Touche, Dr. Jones wants someone he can get to know and trust; someone who will be there for the long run. He wants somebody who will care about him and his family.

Nearly 30 years later the “Big 8” is now down to the “Final 4”. The “emerging market” divisions of the large firms quietly morphed into “middle market” specialists. (i.e. businesses that gross more than $100 million, but less then $1 billion).

Nearly 30 years later, we still serve Dr. Jones, and his family. His son recently finished his residency and will be joining his practice so Dr. Jones and his wife can take a little more time off for a well-deserved retirement.
